Michigander named 2019 Woman of Worth for special needs music therapy work

A Michigan woman has been named to the 2019 Women of Worth honoree list for her music therapy work with special needs children.

Judy Winter founded Eric “RicStar” Winter Music Therapy Camp after the death of her son Eric Winter at age 12. He had suffered from cerebral palsy but thrived in a community music program at Michigan State University.

The camp uses music therapy and one-on-one support to nurture and celebrate abilities while modeling positive inclusion. Students make gains in physical, emotional and social areas, which allows them to increase their independence and form meaningful friendships.
