Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
The Music and Technology program combines music, visual arts and technology to offer unique experiences for the student. It offers the student opportunities to explore the relationship between music and technology, and music, visual arts and technology by experiencing how music affects human emotion. The student is encouraged to go see live music and capture its essence, or by using music and combining songs in their own way to promote dance.
The student will learn to communicate ideas through music, digital media, or by using other forms of expression by creating music through technology, or capturing the emotion of music through digital media and editing it using their imagination, to create something unique.
Students will learn to connect music and technology to career opportunities such as photography, photojournalism, videography, DJ (radio and nightclub), sound and film editing, music videos, and others. Students will also learn to investigate the connections of music and technology to other disciplines such as science, math, poetry, film, theatre, sociology, marketing/advertising, education, etc.
Throughout the student’s learning path, they build a foundation in culture, technology and society. This also helps them understand the important function of a free enterprise society in a creative world.
Students get exposed to making a living through creativity and how supply and demand affect the cost of a good or service, such as photos, videos, performances, production and how to look for a high demand market.
Students learn the importance of individual acts of responsibility by serving their community and giving back through the process of “paying it forward.” Students also learn the history of central Texas’ live music scene and are encouraged to help support it so it can last well beyond their generation.
The student understands the impact of individual and group decisions on communities and can identify examples of actions individuals and groups can take to improve the community in regards to music, digital arts and technology.
The Student uses creative thinking and innovative processes to construct knowledge and develop digital products such as digital images, digital videos and music.
The student communicates both locally and globally using social media to reinforce and promote learning. The following tools are used but are not limited to: social media sites such as Soundcloud, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and appropriate, safe user forums.
The student practices safe, responsible, legal and ethical behavior while using digital tools and social media to protect their products while respecting the intellectual property of others.
The student demonstrates concepts of the subject, including correct terminology. The student will be able to:
- Correctly operate the resources used to produce the products earmarked for the class.
- Manipulate files using appropriate naming conventions and file management.
- Navigate systems and applications corresponding to their related tools and resources being used.
- Troubleshoot minor technical problems using available resources e.g. help and knowledge bases.
