Kenny Felton

Kenny Felton has a long history of teaching and helping kids. Kenny started teaching percussion at the age of 19 while studying music at Indiana University. Kenny moved to Austin at age 27 and soon started teaching drums and percussion for a number of schools in the Austin Independent School District. Shortly after, Kenny was added to a team of music tutors for the Round Rock School district and became an instructor at Tommy’s Drums.  Outside of music, Kenny is a certified Sifu (instructor) in Ving Tsun Kung Fu (pronounced Wing Chun), an assistant SCUBA instructor, through SSI, a father and grandfather.

 

While Kenny’s reputation as a musician and instructor spread, he helped bring jazz to the schools through Tina Marsh’s Creative Opportunity Orchestra, as well as the Austin Jazz Workshop. Kenny was also the drummer for Pillow Elementary School’s: Something’s Afoot. A program dedicated to showing kids what is involved in putting on a quality production by having the children learn and do a performance with professional musicians and stage crew in a large auditorium, like Bass Concert Hall.

 

Kenny’s 22 years of technical experience includes positions as an Electronics Technician, Telecommunications Technician and 15 years as a Systems Administrator.

 

Kenny’s emphasis is opening the minds of future generations to creatively combine technology with the arts.
